Description
SM-40 score residue meter is a microscope testing equipment, used to measure the score depth of easy-open can lids ends - the remaining amount of the notch (score).

Measuring Method of SM-40 Easy-open Ends Score Residue Meter
1. Align the objective lens of the microscope with the nether measuring needle. Adjust the focal length of the objective lens until the image of the nether measuring needle tip is the clearest. Figure 1.

2. Press the "Record" button to record the value of this focal length. This value is the "zero value". Figure 2

3. Place the easy-open lid on the measuring table. ThepPull ring (tab) and the score upwards. The score to be detected are placed in the area of the objective lens and the nether measuring needle. Adjust the focal length of the objective lens until the easy-open lid image appears on the screen. At this time, the objective lens and the nether measuring needle are not necessarily aligned with the score. Figure 3.

4. Adjust the horizontal movement knob of the measuring table so that the notch (score) of the easy-opening lid (end) is aligned with the objective lens and the nether measuring needle. Figure 4.

5. Adjust the focal length of the objective lens until the bottom of the notch (score) is clear.
6. Press the "Record" button to record the value of this focal length. This value is the bottom focal length "A" of the notch.
7. Calculate the remaining amount of the notch (score) on the easy opening lid. The tip of the nether measuring needle is a supporting point of the lid to ensure good contact with the bottom surface of the lid. The “zero value” of the focal length of the tip of the nether measuring needle is also the “zero value” of the easy-open lid notch, denoted by O.
    Remaining amount of notch = A – O = A    That is:
Easy-open Ends Score Residue = A – O = A
